Thomas Macho has been Director of the IFK since 1 March 2016.
From 1993 until 2016 Thomas Macho was Professor of Cultural History at the Humboldt University in Berlin. In 1976, he graduated at Vienna University with a dissertation on the philosophy of music. In 1983, he qualified as lecturer of Philosophy at Klagenfurt University with a thesis on death metaphors. Macho was a co-founder of the Hermann von Helmholtz Centre for Cultural Technology and from 2006 until 2008 Deacon of the Philosophy Faculty III. From 2008 until 2009 he was a fellow at the International College for Cultural Technology Research and Media Philosophy at the Bauhaus University Weimar; from 2009 until 2011 Director of the Institute for Cultural Science. In the academic year 2013/14, he was a fellow at the International College "Morphomata" at Cologne University.
